M.J. Labelle Co. Ltd started in 1944 with one truck working on the Kapuskasing Airport. Today the company employs over
100 skilled individuals. In the past 50 years, Marcel Labelle and his company have earned a reputation for quality
workmanship,
innovation, and pioneering achievement.
The company was incorporated on May 25, 1955 and has been involved in a diverse range of civil engineering projects
ever since. Success has come from hard work and creative innovations. One such innovation was a patented double clam to
load two-tier 4-foot wood onto 40-foot trailers using a dragline. Another first in this industry for Northern Ontario
was offering a pension plan and group benefit plan to their employees.
In 2006 Marcel Labelle was one of five industry pioneers to be the first inductees into the new Ontario Road Building
Hall of Fame, created by the Ontario Road Builders Association. In addition to growing his company, Marcel has
benefited his community and the north as a major employer, as well as donating to charitable organizations and
sponsoring many local and regional groups and activities.
